ATSU launches new online master’s degree in human movement

University joins forces with the National Academy of Sports Medicine® on new online offering

MESA, Ariz. (Oct. 13, 2006 ) – A.T. Still University’s Arizona School of Health Sciences (ATSU-ASHS) in Mesa recently launched a new online master of science degree in human movement. Applications are now being accepted for enrollment in the winter quarter (November) 2006.

The Human Movement Program is designed for a wide spectrum of health and fitness professionals and combines traditional exercise science foundational topics such as exercise physiology, biomechanics, and motor development with corrective exercise coursework adapted from the National Academy of Sports Medicine® (NASM®) certification curriculum. The unique factor that differentiates this degree from existing programs is that this degree offers professional knowledge and career enhancement while providing the opportunity to learn from leaders in the health and fitness industry.

“With so many fitness professionals tied to their workplace and unable to relocate and pursue traditional advanced education, this degree opens up professional development options previously unavailable to the fitness industry,” said Dr. Matthew Rhea, human movement program director.

The bulk of the 42 credit hour program can be completed online in as little as 18 months. In addition to the distance learning component, students also receive the opportunity to participate in a one-week, hands-on session with ATSU and NASM® leadership in Arizona. The new online program promises to be instrumental in helping personal trainers, physical therapists, athletic trainers, coaches, and others expand their knowledge and develop professionally in the most convenient methods possible.

To enroll in this new online program or for more information about ASHS, contact the A.T. Still online graduate enrollment office at 877.469.2878, onlineinquiry@atsu.edu, or www.atsu.edu/ashs/online_programs/human_movement/.
