ATSU Board of Trustees appoints officers, elects three new trustees

The A.T. Still University (ATSU) Board of Trustees met July 22-23, 2016, in Napa, California, to appoint officers and elect new members at its quarterly meeting.
The following trustees were selected as officers: Ann Thielke, RN, JD, of Houston, Texas, is chair; Gary Wiltz, MD, of Franklin, Louisiana, is vice-chair; and Stanley Grogg, DO, FACOP, FAAP, ‘71, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, is secretary.
Thielke is the chief executive officer of Good Neighbor Healthcare Center in Houston, Texas. Previously, she served as senior vice president, general counsel, compliance officer, and corporate secretary of a national health care network, VHA Inc. Prior to joining VHA Inc. in 2012, Thielke served as vice president and general counsel for St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System in Houston, Texas. During her tenure with the system, it expanded from two to six hospitals.
Dr. Wiltz, a board-certified internist, is chief executive officer of Teche Action Clinics, a network of 10 federally qualified community health centers located in six parishes in southwest Louisiana. Dr. Wiltz is past chair of the National Association of Community Health Centers, an organization representing more than 9,000 clinics serving 28 million people nationwide.
Dr. Grogg, a 1971 graduate of ATSU-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM), is board certified in pediatrics and a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Physicians and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has served as past president of the ATSU Alumni Association and Kirksville Osteopathic Alumni Association (KOAA). Dr. Grogg received the Oklahoma Osteopathic Association’s Physician of the Year award in 2006 and the American College of Osteopathic Physicians’ Pediatrician of the Year award in 2008. His long list of accolades includes the 2013 Osteopathic Founders’ Foundation Outstanding Physician of the Year.
New trustees elected to the board are Michelle L. McClure, PhD, of St. Louis, Missouri; Joseph A. (Jay) Morgan, PhD, of Murray, Kentucky; and Linnette J. Sells, DO, FAOASM, ’82, of Alpharetta, Georgia.

Dr. McClure is the associate provost of the division of academic affairs for Harris-Stowe State University (HSSU). She served as HSSU’s co-chair for reaffirmation with the Higher Learning Commission to receive 10-year accreditation and provided oversight to ensure accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Accreditation. Dr. McClure received her doctor of philosophy in educational leadership and policy studies from Indiana University in 2003. She received her master of arts in education from Truman State University in 1997.
Dr. Morgan is chief academic officer and vice president for academic affairs/student success at Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education. He oversees statewide academic affairs including curriculum and programming, academic policy development, admissions requirements, research and innovation, and development of graduate and doctoral programs. Dr. Morgan graduated with a doctor of philosophy in agricultural education/teacher education from Oklahoma State University in 1998. He earned his master of science degree in agricultural science from Murray State University in 1994.
Dr. Sells is a team physician for Georgia Tech and staff physician for Piedmont Urgent Care. She is a fellow and past president of the American Osteopathic Association of Sports Medicine, and served as a member and past-president on the KOAA Board of Directors. Dr. Sells earned her doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from ATSU-KCOM in 1982 and also served as a director and faculty member for ATSU-KCOM from 1986-90. She received her undergraduate degree in biology from Truman State University.
“As a new chair, I am honored these three highly qualified individuals have agreed to serve as trustees on the board and are willing to share their abilities to promote and enhance the vision and mission of ATSU,” says Thielke.
Trustees named to serve on the Audit Team include C. Lisette Dottavio, PhD, CPA, chair, of Stephenville, Texas; Dr. Wiltz; and Paulina Vázquez Morris, JD, MBA, MHSA, of Phoenix, Arizona.
The following trustees will continue their service on the board: Rosie Allen-Herring of Washington, D.C., MBA; Reid Butler, JD, of Phoenix, Arizona; James Cannon, DHA, PA-C, MS, ’97, of Chesapeake, Virginia; Chester Douglass, DMD, PhD, MPH, of Waban, Massachusetts; G. Scott Drew, DO, FAOCD, ’87, past chair, of Marion, Ohio; Tisha Kice-Briggs, DDS, of Kirksville, Missouri; and Bertha Thomas, of Kirksville, Missouri.
Thielke, Dr. Drew, and Dr. Phelps expressed their appreciation to the following trustees who completed their terms of service: Daniel L. Biery, DO, FACOI, FACG, FASGE, ’72, of Phelps, New York; Robert King, JD, of Frankfort, Kentucky; and Robert W. Uhl, of Paradise Valley, Arizona.
The next board meeting will be October 28-29, 2016, in Kirksville, Missouri.
