ATSU announces funding for seven proposals under AI, Mixed Reality grant competition

A.T. Still University’s (ATSU) Division of Research, Grants & Scholarly Innovations is excited to announce funding for seven new winning proposals under the one-time ATSU AI/Mixed Reality Innovation in Health Professions Education Grant competition.

In alignment with ATSU’s Strategic Plan 2021-2028, particularly Theme I. Innovative Education and Theme V. Agile Resource Management, the University offered a one-time opportunity to provide faculty and teams internal grant funds for innovative projects exploring the use of AI/Mixed Reality technology in health professions education and university initiatives.

Collectively, a total of $28,476.55 has been awarded. Winning investigators and projects include:

  1. Richard Allinson, DDS, ATSU-Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health, “Development of an Interactive Artificial Intelligence (AI) Virtual Reality (VR) Dental Simulated Patient as a Learning Activity for Dental Students,” $4,950. Collaborators: Grishondra Branch-Mays, DDS, MS; Graziela Batista, DDS, PhD; Leila Nasiry Khanlar, PhD, MSc, DDS; Dave Kojic, DMD, MS, PhD; Hanan Omar, BDS, MSC, PhD; and Ammar Musawi, BDS, MDS, MPH

  7. Milton Pong, PhD, ATSU-SOMA, “Finding a Place for Artificial Intelligence in Foundational Medical Science Education,” $5,000. Collaborators: Timothy Shipley, PhD and Robert Lewis, PhD
