ASDOH student’s abstract and poster presentation selected

Joshua Parfitt, D3, A.T. Still University’s Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-ASDOH), recently had his research abstract entitled, Anaerobic bacterial DNA characterization using qPCR and pyrosequencing techniques for chronic periodontal disease, chosen among many applicants to the bi-biennial Ohio State University Volpe competition. The competition includes three countries (Canada, United States, and Mexico) and is open to all dental schools, PhD candidates, periodontal residents, and periodontists.
Only 12 abstracts were accepted to compete, and Parfitt was the only dental student to be accepted since the initiation of the Volpe competition. Dr. Inder Makin, MD, PhD; Dr. Vineet Singh; PhD, Dr. Morrie Reisbick, DMD, MS; and Dr. Marc Shlossman, DMD, MS, served as advisors and mentors for this project.
Parfitt was also chosen recently to represent ATSU-ASDOH at the American Dental Association 49th Annual Dental Students Conference in Maryland. Parfitt presented a poster to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and was able to engage in collaboration with the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR).
