Dr. Park hopes this new column, PCSO Resident Research Review, will showcase the research being done at postgraduate orthodontic programs while serving as a valuable resource to practitioners as they consider introducing new products or techniques to their offices. A video of the Resident Research Review is also available. In the PCSO, there are 12 postgraduate orthodontic programs. Program chairs will consider clinical and scientific research that has recently been published by their faculty or program and ask senior residents to write summaries of select articles published by their schools. Based on alphabetical order, the first column will be written by a resident at A.T. Still University. Each program will publish a review once every three years. Dr. Park is current Editor-in-Chief of the PCSO Bulletin. He also serves as an editorial board member of several peer-reviewed orthodontic and dental journals. He was recently invited to be a guest editor of Seminars in Orthodontics.

Jae Hyun Park, DMD, MSD, MS, PhD, professor and chair, postgraduate orthodontic program at A.T. Still University’s Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-ASDOH), was recently invited to be the Guest Editor of a special issue for Seminars in Orthodontics. The title of the issue was, ‘Interactions Between Orthodontics and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery’. Dr. Park also serves as an editorial board member of this journal. Each issue of Seminars in Orthodontics provides up-to-date, state-of-the-art information on a single topic related to orthodontics. Readers are kept abreast of the latest innovations, research findings, clinical applications and clinical methods. As a collection, this issue together with past issues provide invaluable reference material for present and future review. In addition to fulfilling his teaching and administrative duties as a full-time faculty member at ATSU-ASDOH since 2008, Dr. Park has published more than 130 scientific and clinical articles in peer-reviewed orthodontic and dental journals. He also lectures nationally and internationally.

Jae Hyun Park, DMD, MSD, MS, PhD, professor and chair, postgraduate orthodontic program at A.T. Still University’s Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health, was invited as an External Assessor at Orthodontic Department, University of Alberta in Canada, March 14-15. Dr. Park assessed clinical competencies of MS students, a PhD student, an international orthodontist, and residents. He evaluated 16 postgraduate students using his 16 difficult cases. Each student was evaluated for one hour following the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) clinical exam format. Dr. Park is also an ABO Examiner and Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) Consultant/Site Visitor to evaluate accreditation of the postgraduate programs in North America.

Jack Dillenberg, DDS, MPH, dean of A.T. Still University’s Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health, has been selected by George Washington University (GWU) to participate on an advisory committee during a study aimed at developing social mission metrics for health professions schools. The one-year study, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, will be led by GWU researchers. The study proposes the creation of system of metrics that could be used in a regularized way to identify the level of engagement of medical, dental, and nursing schools in social mission activities, track them over time, and/or compare them to other institutions. The initiative has three phases with the first two being undertaken in 2016 and which include development and pilot testing, and then implementation. Dr. Dillenberg, who was selected for his expertise in progressive dental education, will join a committee comprised of leaders in health professions education, health policy, metrics development, and public health. Members of the committee will provide advice on the development of metrics and an instrument to be piloted at six schools (two medical, two nursing, and two dental), and serve as counselors to the program leadership as the study proceeds.

She is known internationally for her expertise in sport rehabilitation and performance enhancement and bridging between physical therapy and return to sport. An alumnus of Daemen College, Falsone graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a master’s degree in Human Movement Science; is owner and founder of S&F: Structure and Function, a consulting and education business for healthcare clinicians and athletes; and is also owner and founder of Dr. Ma’s Systemic Dry Needling, an educational company working to bring the concepts, philosophies and techniques of dry needling to the allied healthcare professional.

Through countless acts of altruism, A.T. Still University schools, colleges, and programs are constantly shaping their communities in positive ways. In this issue of Still Magazine, you will experience many student-, faculty-, and staff-led volunteer initiatives along with meaningful works of our alumni and trustees.

You will meet ASDOH alumna DezBaa Damon-Mallette, DMD, ’07, who shares her calling to provide oral healthcare to underserved Native persons in remote locations from Alaska to New Mexico. She will inspire you, your family, and your friends. Also, KCOM alumnus Peter Baik, DO, ’05, discusses the roles of technology, engineering, and robotics in patient care delivery.

You will recognize ATSU’s impact on our Kirksville, Mesa, and St. Louis neighborhoods. From Special Olympics to St. Louis Dental Education and Oral Health Clinic opening, the positive effect on underserved communities and populations is heartwarming.
