Tailored services for teaching support

The Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) offers personalized services designed to support educators at every stage of their professional development journey. Whether you’re seeking feedback on your teaching, exploring new instructional strategies, integrating educational technology, or planning a customized training experience for your team, the TLC provides expert guidance and collaborative support to help you achieve your goals and enhance student learning.

Consultations

Collaborate with a TLC team member one-on-one, as a teaching team, or as a department to explore evidence-based teaching practices, educational technology, or educational research; brainstorm ideas; or get feedback. We welcome the opportunity to consult with educators, deans, department chairs, center directors, curriculum committees, course directors, and any others playing a role in the design, implementation, assessment, and evaluation of clinical, laboratory, or didactic teaching and learning (in-person, synchronous online, or asynchronous) at ATSU.

Examples of previous consultation topics include student engagement, formative and summative assessments, increasing equity and inclusion in the classroom, content development and organization, and the selection of educational technologies.

Ready to get started? ATSU faculty and staff can request a consultation by selecting an available appointment slot using the TLC consultation calendar. Consultations can also be scheduled outside of listed calendar availability by emailing the TLC at tlc@atsu.edu.

Teaching observations

Teaching observations provide an opportunity for educators to get feedback on their instruction and engage in continuous improvement. These observations promote intentional, reflective instruction and are especially encouraged for those completing the Level Up! Certificate Program. All ATSU faculty and staff are welcome to participate in a teaching observation, regardless of current teaching responsibilities. Alternative formats are available for those not currently leading a learning experience so that this opportunity is accessible to all ATSU educators.

A teaching observation takes place in two parts. First, a TLC team member will observe teaching and learning practices in whatever setting is most appropriate, whether a live classroom, clinical or laboratory setting, asynchronous course or training, or mock/demo session. The team member will take note of practices like student engagement, instructional strategies, and content delivery. Next, through a one-on-one meeting with the TLC team member, there will be opportunities to debrief and discuss the observations, receive feedback, and consider strategies for further experimentation, refinement, and reflection.

Please note that this process is intended to support faculty and staff development through private conversations between the educator and a TLC team member. Teaching observations are not part of annual reviews or departmental promotion and tenure evaluations.

Interested in scheduling a teaching observation? Please complete the teaching observation form, and a TLC team member will be in touch soon. Questions about the teaching observation process can be directed to the TLC at tlc@atsu.edu.
