What is Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine

Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) is a hands-on soft tissue treatment to help restore normal motion to restricted areas that cause pain. Both acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain can be treated to facilitate the patient's own healing to take place. Osteopathic physicians are fully licensed medical doctors which can be found in all medical specialties. The physicians in this center specialize in OMM.

About the Physicians

David Shoup, DO, AOBNMM

Medical Director, A.T. Still University Osteopathic Medicine Center Arizona Associate Professor

David Shoup, DO, specializes in neuromusculoskeletal medicine and performing arts medicine. He treats patients using a combination of osteopathic manipulation and integrative medicine to address common problems including neck pain, back pain, headaches, fibromyalgia, overuse injuries, sprains and strains, and other musculoskeletal complaints.

Dr. Shoup is a graduate of Western University of Health Sciences located in Pomona, California and is a native of Phoenix. He is board certified in neuromusculoskeletal medicine (NMM) and osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM). Because he is a musician, he has a special interest in treating performing artists.


James Keane, DO

Physician, A.T. Still University Osteopathic Medicine Center Arizona

James Keane, DO, was born in Chicago, Ill. and moved to Arizona over 20 years ago. After working in higher education and government, Dr. Keane entered a career in medicine attending medical school at Midwestern University in Glendale, Ariz. and residency in Sierra Vista, Ariz.  Dr. Keane utilizes a wide range of healing modalities specializing in internal medicine and integrative holistic medicine with a emphasis in osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT).

Extracurricularly, Dr. Keane likes to spend time with family, enjoy the outdoors hiking and jogging, cook and eat equally, and maintain a balance through meditation, tai chi and other healing modalities.
