ATSU Women’s Health Center at the Gutensohn Clinic offers an array of comprehensive services including obstetrics, gynecology and women’s healthcare. Patients have access to the latest advancements in medical treatment and techniques in a caring and comfortable environment. Valena Fiscus, DO, MPH, FACOI, ’13, is an assistant professor of internal medicine at A.T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM). Dr. Fiscus earned her doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from ATSU-KCOM in 2013 and completed her internal medicine residency at Tower Health-Reading Hospital, Reading, Pennsylvania. She is dually certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine. As a National Health Corps Scholar, Dr. Fiscus believes people deserve affordable and accessible healthcare and has practiced in both urban and rural underserved clinics. Besides underserved medicine, she is also interested in nursing home care, immigrant populations, and infectious diseases. She is involved in public health research, and she is the current medical director of the Adair County Health Department.“I chose to come back to Kirksville because I have always felt a connection to the community since being a medical student at ATSU-KCOM many years ago. I have always wanted to teach the next generation of osteopathic physicians and live in a community in which I can make a difference. Kirksville and Northeast Missouri is the perfect place to live out those goals.”
Fun fact: During a genealogy search, Dr. Fiscus discovered her third great granduncle moved to Kirksville, Missouri, from Spencer, Indiana, in the late 1800s.
Eric Lesh, DO, ’18 is an assistant professor of family medicine at A.T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM). Born and raised in the St. Louis, Missouri, area, Dr. Lesh is passionate about healthcare in Missouri. Dr. Lesh earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from ATSU-KCOM in 2018 and completed his family medicine residency from Still OPTI-Northeast Regional Medical Center, Kirksville, Missouri. He is pursuing board certification from the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians and American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Lesh has interests in rural and underserved medicine, preventive medicine, public health, osteopathic manipulative treatment, graduate and undergraduate medical education, and clinical simulation in medical education.
Why I chose Kirksville:
I chose Kirksville, Missouri, because, after completing seven years of medical training here, I think of Kirksville as my home. This community is my family, and I am passionate about caring for it. Other healthcare providers in town are my friends and role models. I look forward to working cooperatively with them to improve the health of our community, and I am also excited to continue to educate medical students and resident physicians in my position with Kirksville Family Medicine and ATSU-KCOM.
Katherine Holbrook, DO, is an osteopathic physician from eastern Kentucky. She completed her undergraduate degree from Centre College before completing medical school at the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Holbrook moved to Kirksville in 2020 to complete her family medicine residency education with A.T. Still University (ATSU) Kirksville Family Medicine.
Dr. Holbrook has always had a strong interest in rural medicine and is especially passionate about osteopathic manipulative medicine. Her practice spans the family medicine areas including children, adults, women's health, geriatrics, and clinic procedures. Dr. Holbrook is also an A.T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) associate professor. Her interests outside of medicine include her enjoyment of cooking, baking, and a strong glass of tea.
Citing the reasons she chose to continue her work with ATSU Kirksville Family Medicine, Dr. Holbrook stated, “I am passionate about providing holistic, quality care in rural areas. I am here to work with my patients for better health and a brighter future. I love working with our resident doctors and ATSU medical students to help educate them, fostering a sense of community and responsibility.”

He earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, and he completed residency at Northeast Regional Medical Center.

He serves as the chairperson for the Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine department and as the program director for the Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (ONMM) residency. Dr. Snider is board certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine & Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathy from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (1999), and he completed his internship and residency at Northeast Regional Medical Center (1999-2002).
Karen Snider, DO, FAAO, FNAOME, is a professor at A.T. Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM). Dr. Snider is board certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. She earned her doctor of osteopathic medicine from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, and she completed residency at Northeast Regional Medical Center.
