My athletic training career started out with me working in the secondary school setting. After being in that setting for close to four years, I started to have an interest in teaching. Therefore, when I first started the Doctor of Athletic Training (DAT) program at A.T. Still University (ATSU), I intended to obtain my degree and transition from the secondary school setting (as pictured) to academia, where I would be teaching future athletic trainers. I had previously obtained my master’s degree from ATSU and knew that I wanted to continue with my schooling at ATSU.
Shortly after starting the program, I experienced a few life changes over the course of two years and became a wife and mother. Therefore, my career goals shifted, and I landed a new position working as an athletic trainer in the clinic with the role of clinical assistant. What I love about the DAT degree is that even though my career goals have shifted while working towards my DAT, the knowledge and skills that I have gained will be applicable to me as an athletic trainer, regardless of the setting in which I am working.
