As a student in the DAT program, I have been able to build my brand and differentiate myself as an athletic trainer from other athletic trainers. This program has not only helped me grow professionally, but personally. I have been able to identify areas that I’m more passionate about and how I can impact such, as well as in my clinical practice.
As part of my applied research project in the program, I developed a return to learn (RTL) protocol post-concussion for the college setting. During the process of developing the RTL, I was able to initiate new collaborations within my work setting (university) with the goal of expediting the process for academic support. This was definitely a successful project that will benefit the clinicians and patients. My hope is to continue impacting my clinical practice through the implementation of this protocol and other future initiatives. I also plan to continue doing research on RTL and how the process can be improved based on the outcome once implemented.
What I love the most about this program is how it helps you find an area that you are passionate about and become an expert on it. This program provides a variety of tools that are definitely key for our profession to continue growing and moving forward.
