Shadow

I chose to pursue the graduate certificate in Sport Neurology and Concussion after completing my master’s degree at ATSU. I worked the last eight years in a physician clinic with a sports medicine physician treating concussions.

I have always had an interest in concussions, but this interest deepened with my work in the clinic. With the graduate certificate, I was able to dive deeper into the subject and not only improve my own clinical practice, but also that of my fellow athletic trainers and physicians.

My goal with the graduate certificate was to be able to expand on my care for concussions in the secondary school setting. I now teach the concussion topic in a Master of Athletic Training program, where I hope to provide future athletic trainers the confidence in evaluating and treating sport injuries and to show the full scope of how athletic trainers are vital in concussion care and management. As ATs, we are more than just a source of referral.
