The Center for Advanced Oral Health at A.T. Still University Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-ASDOH) in Mesa, Arizona provides comprehensive, patient-centered dentistry for those with advanced oral healthcare needs. Supporting the community’s dental practices, the Center offers assistance to dentists with specialized, high-risk cases while ensuring they remain the primary dental care providers.
Leading the way in advanced dentistry
The Center for Advanced Oral Health at ATSU-ASDOH in Mesa provides comprehensive, patient-centered dentistry for patients with advanced oral healthcare needs. Supporting community dental practices, the Center assists dentists with specialized, high-risk cases while ensuring they remain the primary dental care providers.
The 11,000-square-foot clinic is Arizona’s first to offer the expertise and technology to treat patients with complicating factors such as cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, bariatric needs, cardiac disease, hemophilia and other blood disorders, kidney/liver disease, and physical or developmental disabilities. The Center includes the Dr. Rick Workman Advanced Care Clinic and the Orthodontic Clinic.
Patients receive advanced care in one location, eliminating the need to visit multiple specialists. World-class teaching specialists, supported by top students and residents, provide efficient, patient-centered care while keeping primary care dentists informed and involved. The Center also coordinates care with area hospitals, the Arizona Kidney Foundation, the Hemophilia Foundation, the Huntington Disease Foundation, and participates in the Ryan White program.
Dental practices may not always be equipped for medically complex cases, which can require extra consultation and research. The Center provides these advanced services so dental teams can continue serving other patients without compromise, offering convenience, expertise, and continuity of care for challenging cases.
Arizona’s first dental school, ATSU-ASDOH has addressed the nation’s oral healthcare needs since 2003. The school emphasizes critical inquiry, evidence-based practice, research, cultural competency, prevention-focused care, and interdisciplinary healthcare experiences. Students are prepared to become caring, community-minded healthcare leaders.

Specialized dental and orthodontic care
The Center for Advanced Oral Health houses two specialized clinics offering comprehensive care for patients with complex medical and dental needs. Together, these clinics deliver advanced technology, specialty expertise, and patient-centered services in one convenient location.
The Dr. Rick Workman Advanced Care Clinic is the first of its kind in Arizona. This state-of-the-art clinic offers the expertise and technology to treat patients with complicating factors such as cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, bariatric needs, cardiac disease, hemophilia and other blood disorders, kidney/liver disease, as well as physical and developmental disabilities.
Services include but are not limited to:
- Bariatric suite specially designed for patients more than 350 lbs
- General dentistry and preventive care
- 3-D imaging capability
- Advanced cosmetic dentistry
- Sleep apnea appliances
- Facial pain diagnoses and treatment
The Center for Advanced Oral Health Orthodontic Clinic offers specialized, affordable orthodontic care for patients starting at age seven. Services are provided under the guidance of internationally recognized orthodontist Jae Hyun Park, DMD, PhD, MSD, MS.

Jae Hyun Park, DMD, PhD, MSD, MS
Program Director of the Post Graduate Orthodontic Program
Dr. Park is the program director of ATSU-ASDOH’s postgraduate orthodontic program at The Center for Advanced Oral Health. His commitment to clinical education, patient care, and research is paramount. Dr. Park is also a diplomate and examiner for the American Board of Orthodontics.
He has published numerous scientific and clinical articles in national and international journals and serves on the editorial boards of several peer-reviewed dental and orthopedic publications.
Hands-on learning and professional development
A.T. Still University (ATSU) healthcare professionals are committed to collaborating on new ways to deliver compassionate, whole person healthcare more efficiently and effectively. Under the supervision of renowned dental professionals, advanced care dentistry services provided at The Center for Advanced Oral Health are rendered by ATSU dental residents and students. The Center for Advanced Oral Health serves Mesa, Phoenix and outlying communities while educating the oral healthcare leaders of tomorrow.
Through ATSU-ASDOH, The Center for Advanced Oral Health supports a variety of educational programs that prepare the next generation of oral healthcare leaders, from pre-doctoral students to residents and specialized continuing education participants.
The Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) and Master of Public Health (MPH) dual degree program at A.T. Still University’s Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-ASDOH) allows students to earn both a DMD and an MPH in four years. The program emphasizes the critical connection between oral health and overall healthcare, providing a rich, interdisciplinary learning experience that combines clinical training, didactic coursework, and public health education. Graduates are prepared to become technologically adept, community-minded dental professionals and leaders, capable of addressing complex oral health needs and promoting population health.
LEARN MOREThe Center for Advanced Oral Health is a clinical training site for the NYU Langone Medical Center’s Department of Dental Medicine Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency program. NYU Langone’s AEGD program is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. Residents are guided and mentored on-site by members of NYU’s acclaimed faculty and receive hands-on clinical experience in a range of disciplines including (but not limited to): endodontics, periodontics, oral surgery, dental public health, and orofacial pain. Residents treat a wide variety of cases ranging from the simple to the complex, as well as medically complex, elderly, phobic patients and people with developmental disabilities.
LEARN MOREThe Postgraduate Orthodontic Program (POP) is accredited by the Council on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. The program is completed in 30 months and is composed of clinical training, didactic coursework, teaching experiences, and a research project leading to a research manuscript. The program provides a rich clinically focused education, and students are exposed to the most current techniques and practices in the field. ASDOH POP awards a master’s degree and certificate in orthodontics to those completing the program.
LEARN MOREThe Orthodontic Fellowship program is a full-time, non-credit, one-year clinical and academic course for domestic and international dental school graduates and practitioners. It is offered to dentists who have graduated from the United States, Canada, or international dental schools and seek to improve their orthodontic clinical skills and knowledge. The program aims to provide participants with new insights and improved orthodontic expertise for the dental practice, teaching, or research. For those interested in pursuing formal education in the field of orthodontics, this program is designed to enhance qualifications for postdoctoral candidates in a program recognized by the American Dental Association. In addition, it will provide many opportunities for research experience for those who are sincerely interested. Overall, this program has been designed to provide more substantive training in both academic learning and clinical experience. An Orthodontic Fellowship certificate of completion is granted to all who successfully complete the program.

The ATSU ASDOH Advanced Oral Health Education in Special Care (mini-residency) Program is a part-time, two-year academic and clinical program designed to meet the needs and demands of a licensed, actively practicing dentist in Arizona who wishes to enhance their knowledge and skills in caring for individuals with special health care needs, including those with disabilities and those who are frail and medically compromised older adults.
This program is a non-accredited, non-academic credit program primarily focusing on the diagnosis, treatment planning, and various patient management techniques needed to provide comprehensive dental care to people with disabilities and complex medical conditions. It includes experiences in oral medicine, sedation, community/public health, service learning, and leadership. This program is an ADA-CERP approved program, and thus, it will provide 200 hours of continuing education credit upon completion of the program requirements.

The ATSU ASDOH Inclusive Dentistry & Oral Health Immersion Program is an intensive 3-day continuing education program that provides hands-on training to meet the needs and demands of dental healthcare teams (dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and front desk staff) who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills in caring for individuals with special health care needs, including those with disabilities and those who are frail and medically compromised older adults.
Training will be held at the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health at the A.T. Still University Mesa campus and will include observation, chairside opportunities and live-patient direct care.
