Program Overview
The Human Movement program is designed to assist students in the development of comprehensive knowledge of human movement science, functional anatomy, physiology and kinesiology, as well as functional assessment and exercise program design.
Completion of this degree will serve as a valuable source of credibility to sports professionals, club owners, coaches, and fitness department managers. It will also assist such sports medicine, exercise, and fitness professionals in enhancing their knowledge, skills, and abilities relating to the design and maintenance of exercise programs for various populations. When done properly, exercise training can have valuable benefits ranging from general health to elite sports performance. This program will serve as a means of assisting professionals in the appropriate design and implementation of exercise programs for various outcomes.
Students may choose from one of several specialty tracks within the degree program including Sports Conditioning and Geriatric Exercise Science. Each track consists of 4 specialized courses, which can also be completed as a post-graduate degree certificate. Student can also choose from a variety of elective courses in order to obtain knowledge in areas of specific interest.
This program includes a one week residency course which will include presentations and lab-based interactions between students, faculty, and leading professionals in health and fitness. This course, along with participation in the graduation cerremony, is required for graduation.
Points of Distinctiveness
Through collaboration with leading organizations in exercise, health, and fitness, students will learn from leaders in the field, developing innovative ideas to address challenges facing society. Students can focus their educational track in areas such as sports conditioning, geriatric exercise science, core performance, and corrective exercise strategies.
This HM program is a partnership program with the National Academy of Sports Medicine and will assist students in their preparation for the NASM Corrective Exercise and Performance Enhancement Certifications. Two courses in the HM curriculum prepare students to take the certification exams. In addition, all fees for the certification process are paid for by ATSU.
This is a post-professional program requiring prospective students to have at least two years of working experience in a profession related to human movement.
This distance education program enables individuals seeking an advanced degree and cutting-edge information to achieve their goals without leaving full-time employment or relocating to the site of the degree program. It is a flexible and effective educational program that will assist professionals in advancing their knowledge and careers.
Instructors in the HM program represent leading scholars and professionals in exercise related areas. Their research has been published and presented in leading sources around the world and their professional work is viewed as "cutting-edge" practice.
