I chose to pursue the Doctor of Health Administration (DHA) at A.T. Still University’s College of Graduate Health Studies (ATSU-CGHS) as a deliberate step in advancing my professional development within healthcare leadership. Throughout my career, I have maintained a strong passion for healthcare and for contributing meaningfully to the systems that support patient care and organizational effectiveness. While I am currently engaged in a role I find both fulfilling and valuable, I am seeking to further deepen my expertise in healthcare administration, strengthen my leadership capabilities, and broaden my strategic perspective within an increasingly complex healthcare environment.
I also recognized that my educational journey should not conclude at the master’s level. Through attending professional conferences, including the ACHE conference, I had the opportunity to engage with academic institutions and healthcare leaders who emphasized the long-term value and professional impact of the DHA. These interactions prompted me to more intentionally evaluate my next academic step, particularly as I considered both the DHA and an MBA following my MHA. Ultimately, I felt more strongly aligned with the DHA due to its emphasis on advanced healthcare leadership, systems thinking, and applied practice.
This decision was further reinforced through conversations with mentors and the encouragement of my family, especially my mother, who supported my continued academic advancement. On a personal level, I also reflected on the importance of fully pursuing growth opportunities to avoid future regret and to remain aligned with my long-term aspirations.
Additionally, ATSU offered the flexibility needed as a full-time working professional, making it convenient to balance academic responsibilities with both professional and personal travel commitments. Through this program, I aim to refine my leadership competencies, expand my professional network on a national scale, and enhance my ability to contribute to improvements in healthcare systems and patient outcomes. I am also committed to serving as a role model for the next generation of healthcare professionals by demonstrating the value of continuous learning and leadership in practice.
In the long term, I hope to leverage the knowledge, skills, and networks gained through this degree to support and strengthen healthcare delivery in India, my parents’ native country, and contribute to meaningful and sustainable improvements in care delivery and system performance.
