DHSC LIFE MOMENT | Stephanie M.

Shadow

My journey with A.T. Still University’s College of Graduate Health Studies (ATSU-CGHS) has been one of the most transformative chapters of my professional and personal life. I pursued the Master of Public Health (MPH) and the Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) degrees in 2025 because they aligned deeply with my long-term goals and my commitment to serving communities in meaningful and sustainable ways. I wanted to strengthen my foundation in public health, expand my leadership capacity, and develop advanced skills that would open new doors for my career. These programs did all of that and more.

What I found at ATSU-CGHS was a learning environment that challenged me, supported me, and encouraged me to grow beyond what I thought possible. I gained knowledge that I did not even realize I needed. I learned concepts that broadened my perspective on health science, policy, leadership, and community engagement. The faculty and staff were invested in my success and consistently created spaces where I felt valued, heard, and motivated to push myself. Connecting with other scholars across the programs added another layer of richness to my experience. These relationships provided encouragement, collaboration, and a sense of community that carried me through the most demanding seasons of my academic journey.

Completing both degrees while balancing a full professional workload and my responsibilities outside the classroom taught me resilience, discipline, and purpose. My ATSU-CGHS education has shaped the way I lead, advocate, and serve. It has elevated my work in diversity, inclusion, community-based programming, and student support. It has strengthened my ability to design and implement initiatives that create opportunity and access for underserved populations. Most importantly, it has empowered me to use my voice and expertise to build pathways that uplift others.

ATSU-CGHS gave me more than an education. It gave me the confidence to step fully into my calling and pursue the kind of work that leaves a lasting impact. I am proud to be an alumna of this remarkable institution and grateful for the role it continues to play in my journey.
