Teaching Assignments and On-going Research Projects

Dr. Sargentini teaches in Medical Microbiology, Infectious Diseases and Principles of Microbiology. His research interests involve the following topics:

  • Mechanistic studies on Escherichia coli DNA repair protein RadA
  • Gene expression in x-irradiated Escherichia coli; physiological effects
  • Characterization of new DNA repair genes in Escherichia coli

Dr. Chamberlain teaches in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology 2. His research interests involve the following topics:

  • Mechanisms of pathogenicity of Staphylococcus aureus and S. epidermidis
  • Mechanisms of antibiotic survival of S. epidermidis in biofilms
  • Identification of novel S. aureus gene targets for therapy

Dr. Phillips teaches in Dental Immunology and Microbiology 2. Her research interests involve the following topics:

  • Identifying mRNA targets of regulatory sRNA in Porphyromonas gingivalis
  • Roles of sRNAs in regulating P. gingivalis biology and pathogenesis in context of its potential contribution to both oral and systemic diseasesl

Dr. Stuart teaches in Immunology I and II, Infectious Diseases, and Microbiology 2. Her research interests involve the following topics:

  • Assessment of RadA-heterologous protein interactions during DNA repair
  • Assessment of ganglioside-protein interactions in the ocular lens
  • Production of monoclonal antibodies for use as research toolss

Dr. Singh teaches in Medical Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, and Principles of Microbiology. His research interests involve the following topics:

  • Mechanisms of pathogenicity of Staphylococcus aureus and S. epidermidis
  • Molecular pathogenesis of Staphylococcus aureus infections
  • Global gene expression profiling of staphylococci under stress
  • Identification of novel S. aureus gene targets for therapy
  • Molecular approaches to identify and control bacteria implicated in periodontitis
