Tick-Borne Diseases Endemic in the United States

At least fifteen different diseases can be acquired from ticks in the United States:

        1. Anaplasmosis (Anaplasma phagocytophilum- bacteria )
        2. Babesiosis (Babesia microti; parasite)
        3. Borrelia miyamotoi relapsing-like fever (Borrelia miyamotoi- bacteria )
        4. Colorado Tick Fever (CTF virus, Eyach virus, or strain S6-14-03- virus)
        5. Ehrlichiosis (Human Monocytic Ehrlichiosis (HME); Ehrlichia sp.- bacteria)
        6. Ehrlichiosis (Human Granulocytic Ehrlichiosis (HGE); Ehrlichia sp- bacteria.)
        7. Heartland virus and Bourbon virus infections (virus)
        8. Lyme Disease (Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia mayonii - bacteria)
        9. Powassan Disease (Powassan virus- virus)
        10. Rickettsia parkeri rickettsioses (Rickettsia parkeri and Rickettsia 364D (proposed R. phillipi)- rocky mountain spotted fever like symptoms with eschar at tick bite site- bacteria)
        11. Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (Rickettsia rickettsii- bacteria )
        12. Southern tick associated rash illness (STARI- unknown)
        13. Tick Paralysis (neurotoxin from tick- virus)
        14. Tick-borne Relapsing Fever (Borrelia sp.- bacteria)
        15. Tularemia (Francisella tularensis- bacteria )
