Plaque contains the extracellular matrix. Another name for extracellular matrix is extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) not plaque. The EPS surrounds bacteria in the plaque making it harder to remove from the surface of the tooth. EPS is in plaque but there is more to plaque than just EPS.
