Reasons for seeking counseling

Students or their partners or spouses may choose to seek counseling for any of the following reasons:

  • Developing comfort in social situations
  • Improving assertive communication skills

  • Ending procrastination and avoidance
  • Healing relationship problems and improving communication
  • Overcoming sleep disturbance
  • Moving past sadness/depression
  • Avoiding Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
  • Accepting and adapting to life with ADD/ADHD or a learning disability - Adult ADD/ADHD self evaluation
  • Identifying and recovering from substance misuse and addiction
  • Identifying and recovering from eating concerns or distorted body image- Eating attitudes self-evaluation
  • Experiencing loss or grief

Mental health wellness counselors also assist students and their families in locating resources and other services available on campus or in the community that are specific to their needs.
