Andrew Weil, MD writes in his best seller, Spontaneous Healing, that the mind has four activities that facilitate healing. "They are: belief, thought, mental imagery, and emotion." To pick one activity of the mind as an example, Dr. Weil explains that people can use mental imagery to combat disease by learning to focus images connected to emotions that have inherent meaning to that person. For example, one of Dr. Weil's patients imagined "white blood cells as motorcycle policemen who escorted his red cell and platelets in sidecars to protect them from aggressive white cells." Deepak Chopra, MD also discusses mental imagery in his book, Quantum Healing. His patient with cancer imagined his white cells as a blizzard whipping through his body surrounding his tumor to keep it from causing continued damage to his body.
