Dr. Julie Gibson began her medical career as a Veterinary Surgical Assistant at the age of 16, then became a Registered Nurse, working in NICU for seven years, prior to attending medical school at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Dr. Gibson did residencies in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and General Pediatrics, then sub-specialized in Forensic Pathology and Child Abuse Pediatrics.
Dr. Gibson is currently an intermittent federal employee for the U.S. Health and Human Services, serving as the Chief Forensic Officer for DMORT-WMD (Disaster Medical Operations Response Team-Weapons of Mass Destruction) Special Operations Team, where she participates in response to federal mass fatality incidents such as the ground zero investigations following the events of September 11th, 2001.
Dr. Gibson is an Assistant Professor for ATSU-SOMA where she contributes to the direction of courses involving Pediatrics, Medical Skills, Pathology, and Anatomy. She is also involved with distance learning and assists with small group facilitation.
