Dr. David Gardner received his B.S. degree in Biochemistry from Eastern Michigan University in 1986. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in Genetics in 1993. His doctoral work focused upon epidermal growth factor receptor signaling in epithelial cell cancer. After receiving his Ph.D., Dr. Gardner moved to the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale Arizona and did a three-year postdoctoral research fellowship on the function of the homeobox gene HOXC8 during mammalian embryogenesis.
Upon completion of his postdoctoral fellowship, Dr. Gardner became a founding faculty member of Midwestern University’s Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. After ten years in the Biochemistry department at Midwestern University, Dr. Gardner joined ATSU in 2007 to help develop the School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (SOMA).
Dr. Gardner instructs SOMA students in genetics, biochemistry and molecular and cellular biology. One of his primary goals is to impart knowledge in a engaging and enjoyable atmosphere. He also has an interest in the development of critical thinking skills in students and the teaching of evolution to high school and middle school students.
