DENTAL INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

INTERVIEW ETIQUETTE

The most common format is to have several interviewers per interviewee.  In the interview, the school wants to acquaint itself with you, judge your interpersonal skills and elicit important information. You will be judged on the amount of current events you know, how you present yourself, how much dental knowledge you have, and how you respond to questions you do not know the answers to.

*      FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE IMPORTANT!!!

*      Dress to impress

*      It is important that you look professional (i.e. suits, dresses below or at the knees, clothes should be loose-fitting, and try to refrain from bright tacky colors or prints.)

*      Be punctual and arrive early to ensure that you are on time

*      Don’t try anything new (i.e. new perm, hairstyle, cut, etc.)

*      Be well groomed (i.e. shave; brush your hair/teeth, etc.)

*      Smile

*      Get ready beforehand

*      Get a good night’s sleep

*      Prepare everything for the interview the night before (i.e. iron your clothes, transportation, wake-up call AND backup wake-up call, etc.)

*      Do not put on make-up in front of everyone (this includes lipstick)

*      Do not pick your teeth

*      Turn your cell phones OFF or do not bring them with you into the interview

*      When sitting

*      Project confidence

*      Do not slouch, sit up straight

*      Introduce yourself to everyone

*      Find out who you are supposed to meet with and find them to introduce yourself.

*      Shake everyone’s hand you meet

*      Look them straight in the eye

*      Speak up and clearly

*      Find a compliment or something of interest to spark conversation (i.e. weather, location, family, your alma mater, etc.)

*      Try to address people by there first name multiple times (remember them!)

*      Listen!

*      It is very important to let your genuine personality shine through or you will appear phony.
