Meet
your advisor, establish a relationship and make your intentions known for going
to college
Maintain
at least a 3.0 (Grade Point Average)
Volunteer
for events and/or community events
Participate
in:
Extracurricular
activities, academic enrichment programs, summer workshops, and/or camps with
specialty focuses such as music, art science, etc.
Be
consistent….
You
should also create a file of the following documents and notes:
Copies
of report cards
Create
a list of awards and honors
List
of school and community activities in which you are involved with a description
of what your role was (include both paid and volunteer)
SOPHOMORE
Year
Research
colleges/universities
Each
college/university has requirements to apply
Plan
your high school schedule accordingly
Continue
extracurricular activities and update your file from freshman year
Start
studying for ACT/SAT
Take
the PSAT in October and receive results in December. (This score does not count but can be
considered for scholarships)
JUNIOR
Year
Take
the ACT/SAT
Begin
seriously narrowing your choices of colleges
Continue
extracurricular activities and update your file from sophomore year
Begin
searching for scholarships
Sign
up and prepare for the exams you have decided to take (i.e. SAT or ACT)
Ask
for a preview of your academic record and profile to determine your gaps or
weaknesses so that you can get suggestions on how to strengthen your candidacy
for the schools in which you are interested.
Determine
what it takes to gain admission to the college(s) of your choice (this is in
addition to GPA and test score requirements)
SENIOR
Year
Re-take
ACT/SAT if needed
Continue
extracurricular activities and update your file from junior year
Check
your transcripts to make sure you have all the credits you need
Send
out applications for colleges
Fill
out the FAFSA
Apply
for EVERY scholarship for which you are eligible (www.fastweb.com)
Establish
a good relationship with your college advisor
Participate
in a summer bridge program at the college you will be attending
For
any type of career related to Science & Health
Take
Math & Science courses
Chemistry,
Physics, Anatomy, Physiology, etc.
Join
Honor Societies or any other Academic Organizations
Seek
Letters of
Recommendation
i.e. Teachers from math/science classes, community service
coordinators, counselors/advisors, employers, church leaders, etc.
Do
not be afraid to ask questions
