*      Eligibility

*      Be an enrolled member of a United States federally-recognized American Indian tribe or Alaska Native group or possess one-fourth degree Indian blood from a federally-recognized tribe.

*      Be enrolled full-time in a Masters, doctoral or professional degree program at an accredited college or university, within the United States.

*      Demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA from the United States Department of Education and the office of the university you plan to attend.

 

*      Application Procedure

*      Application for the Dr. George Blue Spruce Fellowship additionally provides eligibility for other AIGC-administered graduate/professional awards, especially the AIGC Fellowship. The possibility of an applicant being granted multiple awards by AIGC also exists, especially as regards smaller-amount awards. You need only complete one application.

*      Submit the following by 5:00 p.m., June 1, 2006.

*      A completed AIGC Fellowship Application.

*      A 250-word typed essay as described in the application packet.

*      A Financial Need Form (FNF) completed by the college or university financial aid office.

*      A Tribal Eligibility Certification (TEC)

 

*      New Student APPLICATION

 

*      After filling out the forms and submitting them to their proper recipients, you must also submit:

 

*       three (3) self addressed, stamped postcards along with your application form. These postcards are for our verification process to ensure that all required documents, verifications, and information are accurate, complete, and submitted in a timely manner.

 

*      About Dr. George Blue Spruce, Jr.

*      Dr. George Blue Spruce, Jr., is an outstanding Creighton alum who became the first Native American dentist in the United States. He actively encourages Native Americans to continue their education. Dr. Blue Spruce attended Santa Fe Indian School in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and decided to attend Creighton University in 1949. He was the only American Indian on campus. Dr. Blue Spruce became a Dental School Graduate from Creighton University in 1956 and also the first Pueblo American Indian to graduate from Dental School in the United States. This enabled him to treat patients on Indian Reservations and become an Assistant Surgeon General in the United States Public Health Service.
