City Profile:
Nestled in rural northeast Missouri, Kirksville is home to the Founding School of Osteopathy (KCOM) and Missouri's premier liberal arts and sciences undergraduate institution, Truman State University. This "college town" has a pleasant blend of agricultural dependency combined with regular infusions of cultural celebration. The University hosts multiethnic, scholarly and performing arts opportunities on a regular basis, and draws young people from across the country for their studies.

With a county resident population of 24,265 and student population of 6,300, the Kirksville community embraces a special intimacy and friendliness not found in larger cities. Kirksville became the county seat in 1842 and literally means village of churches. The town is 168 miles east of Kansas City and 92 miles north of Columbia (home of Mizzou football). Outdoor life plays a large part in the local culture as residents and visitors enjoy the Family Aquatic Center, Thousand Hills State Park, Big Creek State Forest and miles of hunting timber.
