Davenport is located in Scott County and it is the county seat. It
lies in eastern Iowa along Interstate 80, on the banks of the Mississippi
River, one of the few locations where the river runs east and west.
George Davenport, a fur trader, and Antoine LeClaire, an interpreter,
helped to found Davenport in 1836. LeClaire had received the land
from the Sauk and Fox Indians in 1832. Davenport was incorporated
in 1839 as a Special Charter City in the Territory of Iowa. Davenport,
