Mission & Objectives
Mission
OPTIK is a committed consortium of affiliated health care organizations
and the Founding School of Osteopathic Medicine (KCOM). Its mission is
to engage in cooperative endeavors to promote the highest quality of
osteopathic postdoctoral medical education, training, research, and health
care through a shared vision and plan, with maximization of combined
educational resources. Assured performance excellence for interns and
residents is central to OPTIK’s mission.
Objectives
- To form and progressively develop an osteopathic educational consortium committed to distinctive, vertically integrated, seamless osteopathic curriculum in which interns and residents are assured performance excellence upon completion.
- To create, develop, and market partnerships in education conducive to recruitment and retention of quality interns and residents.
- To create an educational network infrastructure of telemedicine, interactive video, and computer IntraNet to promote distance learning, linking the Founding School of Osteopathic Medicine with clinical postdoctoral training sites.
- To continually evaluate the performance of interns and residents in achieving excellence in those cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains required of them; and to design further educational opportunities to enhance their performance.
- To facilitate faculty development for member institutions and provide postdoctoral opportunities for cultivating future osteopathic educators.
- To maintain an organizational structure that appropriately reflects representation of all Members; and to provide a forum for jointly determining what organizational and programmatic elements are best suited to provide osteopathic graduate medical education and research distinctive to OPTIK.
- To provide opportunity for shared resources to enhance educational quality and provide efficient, cost-effective delivery of osteopathic postgraduate medical education.
- To emphasize community-focused educational programs to meet public health care needs and assure osteopathic health care providers for the future.
- To promote evidence-based learning, encourage osteopathic research, and provide research mentors where appropriate.
