The Osteopathic Postdoctoral Training Institute of Kirksville (OPTIK) is a consortium of teaching hospitals and private practitioners who have partnered with KCOM in pursuit of excellence in internship and residency training.
Applying to Osteopathic Programs
All graduates of osteopathic medical schools must complete an AOA-approved rotating internship (Post-Graduate Year-1) before beginning osteopathic specialty training (although specialty track internships in Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Otolaryngology/Facial Plastic Surgery, Pediatrics, and Urological Surgery essentially eliminate the requirement in these specialties).
For more information regarding available osteopathic postgraduate positions, consult the following web site:
Applying to Allopathic Programs
- NRMP: (National Resident Matching Program) - ERAS General Information
Osteopathic students may participate in the allopathic National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), however PGY-1 positions available through the NRMP often do not fulfill the requirements for osteopathic licensure, especially in the states of Florida, Michigan, Nevada, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. If you want to participate in the allopathic Match, you do so as an "independent applicant" and communicate directly with NRMP. Materials to participate should be requested through NRMP, by calling 202.828.0566.
General information regarding allopathic residencies can also be found at the following sites:
