mation about the regulatory processes that affect excitability and contractility is important for a better understanding of normal vascular function as well as changes that may occur in hypertension and other cardiovascular disorders. The present focus of Dr. Ousterhout's research is on the interactions between endothelial cells, vasoactive substances, and smooth muscle cells. Dr. Ousterhout is characterizing the effects of ion channels blockers on arterial relaxation to nitric oxide. This study should provide information about how endothelial factors and related drugs alter vascular smooth muscle cells to influence blood flow.
