This is not the correct etiological agent of Bob's condition.
This dimorphic fungus (yeast at 37oC and mycelial phase at room
temperature) is endemic in the southwestern states in the United States.
Bob did travel to CA. three months ago however, pneumonia resulting from
this organism is more chronic in onset. Histological slides of the sputum
would reveal a spherule form of this fungus. The spherule
form of Coccidioides immitis is very important to know!
