Tick-Borne Diseases Endemic in the United States

At least nine different diseases can be acquired from ticks in the United States:

        1. Lyme Disease (Borrelia burgdorferi)
        2. Ehrlichiosis (Human Monocytic Ehrlichiosis (HME); Ehrlichia sp.)
        3. Ehrlichiosis (Human Granulocytic Ehrlichiosis (HGE); Ehrlichia sp.)
        4. Babesiosis (Babesia microti; parasite)
        5. Tick Paralysis (neurotoxin from tick)
        6. Tick-borne Relapsing Fever (Borrelia sp.)
        7. Tularemia (Francisella tularensis)
        8. Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (Rickettsia rickettsii)
        9. Colorado Tick Fever (CTF virus, Eyach virus, or strain S6-14-03)
        10. Cat Scratch Fever might be transmitted to humans via tick (Bartonella henselae, swollen cervical lymph node due to infection with this bacterium).
