Craig M. Phelps, D.O., FAOASM, ’84, serves as provost of A. T. Still University's Mesa Campus overseeing the development of the campus’s medical school of the future, the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health, and the Arizona School of Health Sciences. In addition, Dr. Phelps is a fellowship trained primary care sports medicine physician and is board certified in family medicine. Practicing for more than 20 years in the Phoenix metropolitan area, Dr. Phelps currently serves as primary care physician for the NBA Phoenix Suns and WNBA Phoenix Mercury, physician for Ballet Arizona, team physician for Grand Canyon University, and team physician for Scottsdale Community College, Paradise Valley Community College, and Gateway Community College.
Dr. Phelps is board certified in family medicine and is a fellow of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine. He is a member of the Kirksville Osteopathic Alumni Association Board of Directors.
After graduating from ATSU-KCOM, Dr. Phelps completed an internship at Sun Coast Hospital in Largo, Fla., and a sports medicine fellowship at the Center for Sports Medicine and Orthopedics in Phoenix, Ariz., where he continues his practice in sports medicine.
Douglas L. Wood, D.O., Ph.D., dean of the proposed new osteopathic medical school in Mesa, Ariz.
Prior to his position as dean, Dr. Wood was president of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM). Dr. Wood also served as dean at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) in East Lansing, Mich., from 1991-1995. He served as associate dean at MSUCOM from 1987-1991.
Dr. Wood has received numerous honors, including Outstanding Nephrologist by the Michigan Kidney Foundation in 1985. He also received the Phillips Medal of Public Service Award from the Ohio University of College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2000 and the Dale Dodson Award for outstanding excellence in the leadership of an osteopathic medical school or organization from the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) in 2004.
Dr. Wood earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Mo., in 1966. He holds a doctorate degree in educational evaluation and research in medical education from Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich., which he earned in 1986.
