First Consult on Handheld

Palm OS, Pocket PC (Windows NT, 2000, 98, ME, or XP for desktop computer)

First Consult is available for download to your PDA as part of the LRC's annual subscription. It features the full range of diagnostic tables from the web version’s Differential Diagnoses tool and key point-of-care content from First Consult’s extensive range of medical topics, covering evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.

Pocket Consult: Pocket Consult puts current medical news, drug updates, and journal abstracts on your hand held device each time you hot-sync. Plus you receive 20 free medical calculators, and the ability to store, record, and initiate searches of MD Consult from the PDA.

Getting started

  • FirstCONSULT users connect through to PocketCONSULT using the link below.
  • The first time you access PocketCONSULT you will be asked to create a new account. This is completely separate from your FirstCONSULT login.
  • Follow the steps by step instructions to install the PocketCONSULT reader on your handheld device
  • Your FirstCONSULT download will automatically be added to your PocketCONSULT library for you to pick up when you synchronize your device.

STAT!Ref offers ACP PIER© - Physicians' Information and Education Resource on PDA to give you access at the point of care. It is an evidence-based medicine point-of-care tool.

To download and register ACP PIER for your Palm PDA device, follow the instructions below.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL to your PDA

  1. Go to - Will be announced soon - and download STAT!RefPDA-PIER.exe to your computer desktop
  2. Double click on STAT!RefPDA-PIER.exe
  3. Follow instructions to install STAT!Ref PDA:PIER onto your computer. Basically, the install program prepares the files to be HotSynched to your PDA.
  4. You may need to move our largest file, PPDOC.pdb  (approx. 19Mb), to your PDA’s Memory Card.  You can move this file, PPDOC.pdb, using Palm’s HotSync® Manager.  Make sure you change the destination of the PPDOC.pdb file before you HotSync® to your PDA.   All of our other files must reside in your PDA’s main memory.

HOW TO REGISTER:

  1. When installation is complete, perform a HotSync operation to your PDA.  To disable the nagging feature which is built into our STAT!Ref PDA: PIER product you must register. 
  2. To receive your registration code, go to: http://online.statref.com/regcodemanager/default.aspx?un=azhin&pw=PDA
  3. Enter in your Palm OS HotSync Id, your name and your e-mail address and you will receive your registration code. (We will, also, send you an e-mail with your registration code for you to have for your records.)   STAT!Ref PDA:PIER must be registered to disable the nagging feature that is built in.
  4. Our PDA application, STAT!Ref PDA:PIER, will ask you for this registration code, enter the registration code and you are ready to go. (Once entered the registration code is good for up to 12 months.)
  5. STAT!Ref PDA: PIER is updated monthly, so remember to repeat steps 1 – 5  on a monthly basis to keep up with ACP PIER’s latest information.

What are the system requirements?

  • Palm Operating System Only
  • 1 MB of primary memory and an additional 19 MB of primary memory or expansion card memory required.*
  • Palm OS® 4.0.1 or later
  • Palm HotSync® Manager 4.0 or later
  • Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable or cradle recommended.

*Memory card recommended. As new and revised information is added, additional memory will be required. Estimated growth will require 20 MB by December 2005.
