PT Non-degree Seeking Option

This option is designed for international physical therapists who are in the process of completing U.S. licensure requirements. The tDPT program offers many online courses which help meet professional deficiencies as determined by one of the approved credentialing agencies:

Non-degree students may complete a maximum of 18 quarter credits while enrolled in the program. HP800 Medical Informatics is a prerequisite course for all courses in the program, and it cannot be taken at the same time with another course.

The tDPT program does not offer an option for clinical internships as part of our online curriculum.

Admissions Requirements:

  1. Copy of credentialing evaluation for equivalency of degree, or copy of official letter from licensing board showing professional deficiencies.
  2. Official sealed transcripts from institutions attended in the US.
  3. ll students are required to demonstrate proficiency in English when applying to the Arizona School of Health Sciences, A.T Still University.

    Written and spoken proficiency in the English language may be demonstrated by one of the following options:

    Option 1
    English is your first language.

    Option 2
    You are demonstrating your English proficiency by submitting acceptable scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

    Acceptable minimal scores for ASHS applications are:

    Paper based total score = 550
    ·     Minimum of 57 on Reading Skills section
    ·     Minimum of 61 on Writing Skills section
     
    Computer based total score = 213
    ·     Minimum of 22 on Reading Skills section
    ·     Minimum of 26 on Writing Skills section 

    Internet based total score = 80
    ·     Minimum of 22 on Reading Skills section
    ·     Minimum of 24 on Writing Skills section

  1. How long does the application process takes?
    Once your application is complete (application and all required documents have been received) approximately 3 weeks.
  2. Why is HP800 Medical Informatics required?
    It is a pre-requisite for all other PT courses in our program. Each student is required to take it. (degree seeking and non-degree seeking) It is designed to provide you with the necessary basic tools to succeed in our online curriculum. This course provides detailed instructions on the use of the Blackboard Campus Edition course learning platform, computer terminology and file management and an introduction to graduate level writing. The course will also cover production of scholarly work, articles citation, and avoiding plagiarism. The skills learned in the course will be key in ensuring your success in future courses within the program.
  3. Can I take HP800 Medical Informatics with another course?
    No. This course must be taken by itself, no exceptions.
  4. Can I take more than 18 credits as a non-degree student?
    Non-degree students are locked at 18 credits maximum. Non-degree students can apply to degree seeking option once they obtain licensure  and meet all admission criteria
  5. Since the tDPT program is on the quarter system, how do I calculate how many hours I will need to equal to semester system?
    The quarter system is much shorter than semester system so if you will need to complete a couple more quarter credits to make your credits up to semester hours. For example, 1 semester credit hour equals 0.67 quarter hours; if you are lacking 5 semester credits you will need 8 quarter credit to cover the hours.
  6. What is the course schedule?
    Many of our courses are offered 3 to 4 times a year. All of our courses run 6 weeks in length.
  7. How long are the courses? How many courses do you take at one time? Each quarter is made up of two six-week course sessions, with the exception of summer quarter. Summer quarter is comprised of only 1 six-week session. Students normally take one course each 6 week session; however, some students take two courses a session.
  8. What type of assignments are used in the courses?
    The course work is guided using Blackboard, a web-based courseware program. Depending on the instructor, you will get reading assignments, PowerPoint lectures (some with narration), and written lectures. Assignments include papers, reflective responses to questions posted to a class bulletin board, quizzes, projects, etc.
  9. Am I required to be at my computer at a specific time for classes?
    Students do not have to be at their computer at any set time. Assignments are due weekly and students can complete the work at any given time during the week.
