Smiles Across Pinal County
Smiles Across Pinal County is a school-based program that provides portable preventive dentistry and serves as an internal clinical rotation for third-year ATSU-ASDOH students. The program provides dental sealants, fluoride varnish treatments, oral screenings, oral health education, and referrals for high-risk second-, third-, sixth-, and seventh-grade children in the Apache Junction Unified School District in Pinal County, Arizona.
During their experience with this school-based public health program, ATSU-ASDOH students provide care to pediatric patients in a non-traditional setting with portable equipment. Annually, the program donates $45,000 in preventive services for more than 300 school children.
Primary resources and funding for the program are provided by Oral Health America’s Smiles Across America, National Children’s Oral Health Foundation, and Delta Dental of Arizona Foundation. Community partners include the Apache Junction Unified School District and Arizona Department of Health Services – Office of Oral Health.
